Marangu Route

Marangu route takes 6- 7 days to climb. for $1750/ group or 1800$/ individual.

  • The $1750/group or 1800$/ individual Package includes.

  • Transport fees from the airport to the hotel and transort fees back to the airport after Mountain Trekking

  • A night before the climb and a night after the climb at the hotel.

  • Food,tents and accomodation throughtout the trekking within the 6-7 days..

However if you wish to stay longer before or after the climb. Accommodation per night range from $50-170$ meals excluded.

Accommodation on the mountain (Three-man mountain tents used for two people only on all routes except for Marangu Route as accommodation is in huts.) Stools, a mess tent and hot water for washing are provided on the mountain.

Health Requirements

Please note you will need a Yellow Fever Inoculation, this must be done no later than 10 days prior to departure. If  

you have had any previous history of Liver Disorders you must consult your physician first. Malaria prophylactics are a must.


Travel Insurance

Please ensure you have sufficient Medical Cover for the duration of your trip and in particular to cover you while doing the Kilimanjaro Climb.

Marangu Route: Welcome

Marangu Route day by day program.

Day 1

Pick up at Kilimanjaro

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro airport, you will be met by one of our guides and transferred to a wide range of hotels that are available here in Moshi with accommodation per night ranging from $50-170$.  In the evening, a preparation and control briefing for trekking will be organized.

Day 2

Hiking time: 3-4 hours. Marangu Gate 1.5mile/s(1,860 m) – Mandara hut 1.67 mile/s(2,700 m) Above sea level.

 

All the administrative formalities are done at the Marangu gate early in the morning. As the hike begins you will be able to walk through the dense rainforest which has a variety species of monkeys such as the colobus monkey. The first stop will be at Mandara hut camping site. Through this route you will be able to view the Maundi Crater.

Day 3

Hiking time : 6-7 hours

Mandara Hut 1.67 miles (2,700 m) – Horombo Hut 2.3miles(3,700 m) Above sea level

As the ascension continues the vegetation around turns more into shrubs. At the Horombo hut is a beautiful view over Mawenzi.

Day 4 (Optional)

Hiking time: 4-5 hours.

Horombo Hut 2.3 miles (3,700 m) – Zebra Rocks 2.5 miles (4,020 m) – Horombo Hut 2.3 miles (3,700 m) Above sea level

 

Day 4 is dedicated to acclimatization so that you can regain energy to climb to the peak.However through this route there lies a naturall attraction known as Zebra Rocks – these are rocks that have water springing from within, the water running over the rocks leave a visible pattern resembling those of a zebra.

Day 5

Hiking time: 6-7 hours.

Horombo Hut 2.3 miles (3,700 m) – Kibo Hut 3miles(4,700 m) Above sea level


This is the most demanding leg of the trek as the slope becomes much steeper and there is more distance to be covered until the next stop which will be at Kibo hut.

Day 6

Hiking time: 12-14 hours

Kibo Hut  2.9 miles (4,700 m) – Uhuru Peak 3.7 miles (5,895 m) – Horombo Hut 2.3 miles (3,700 m) Above sea level

We start walking in the middle of the night when the lava ash is still frozen so it’s easy to walk. Along the way you will pass through Hans Meyer Cave. You will reach the Gilman point on the edge of the volcanoe crater at dawn. After a few hours of walking you will reach the “root of Africa” which is the Uhuru Peak.

The descent follows the same path that you climbed with and the lava ash has now thawed which will allow a smooth descent. Back at Kibo hut you will get a fresh hot meal and have a bit of time to relax before heading back to Horombo Hut.

Day 7

Horombo Hut 2.3 miles (3,700 m) – Marangu Gate 1.15 miles (1,860 m) Above sea level

Hiking time: 6-7 hours.

 

You will stop at Mandara Hut where you will have lunch. After 6-7 hours of trekking, you will reach the Marangu gate, where you will be picked up and be transported back to the hotel.

Day 8

After  transfer back to the hotel Alternatively, you can extend your trip with a safari or a relaxing beach holiday..
